We’re off and running

The Swiss/UK team arrived at the Malawi College of Medicine bright and early on Thursday, 8 August to start preparations: a little warm up practice, arranging rooms and equipment for the arrival of the Bandsmen and Songsters.

By 12.00 all delegates had arrived and Captain Stanley Phiri opened proceedings, which included the introduction of all 9 districts/divisions taking part.

Field Secretary Major Dickson Mpakula officially opened the 2019 Malawi Territorial Music Camp on behalf of TC Colonel Moses Wandulu and to conclude the official opening the Swiss/UK team played the beautiful ‘Somebody Prayed’, arranged by Dean Jones.

The delegates were then arranged into bands and songsters. Bandmasters Gerold Ritter and Philipp (Phips) Stettler worked with the band, which had its youngest member yet!

Bandmasters John Moore and Christian Fuhrer worked with the beginners.

Meanwhile, Songster Leaders Jayne Moore, Ltd. Alfred Manyamba and Joseph Lanken, accompanied by Daniel Bates started practice with the Songsters.

To end the day the Malawian delegates sang a collection of uplifting Malawian choruses.  Jayne and John Moore introduced some fun games to help everyone get to know each other and the songsters sang the Camp Song ‘Finding Peace’, lyrics by Dawn Neeves and music by Daniel Bates.

The evening was brought to end by prayer of thanks giving by Ltd. Alfred.

We look forward to another excellent day of fellowship tomorrow.
